State of Kansas April 2012 Labor Report


The Kansas Department of Labor has issued its April Labor Report showing an overall increase in job growth across the state.

The Lawrence/Douglas County region continues to fare well with unemployment rates below the state average.  Unemployment in our area has decreased by almost 1 percent – from 6.0 in March to 5.2 in April.  The state unemployment rate is 5.8, down from 6.6 percent in March and 6.3 one year ago. At the same time, non-farm jobs in our region experienced growth – from 50.0 percent in March to 50.8 in April – although it is down by 1.4 percent from April 2011.

The unemployment rate in the Lawrence/Douglas County MSA is the second lowest in the state, following Manhattan with a 5.0 percent unemployment rate.
